Support Coordination & Recovery Coaching

Collaboration (10)_edited.jpg

Alacrity Health offers support coordination and recovery coaching across all regions of metropolitan Melbourne. Please find our waiting times at the bottom of this page.

We want to provide you with support that is flexible, transparent, non-judgmental and ethical.

Flexible

Flexible means that we operate 7 days a week, with evening supports available.

We work around your unique needs, not the other way around. If there is a change in needs or additional support needed, we are always available to listen and help.

Transparent

Transparent means that you are always up to date on your supports and anything that might change the supports you  receive from us. We will be upfront about what we charge you and are available for any questions or concerns you have. We value clear and transparent communication.

Non-judgmental

Non-judgmental means that we are trauma-informed, educated, and compassionate. We approach our work from a place of understanding and with a passion for recovery. We avoid stigma, and we understand that we all need a safe space for growth.

Ethical

Ethical means that we have a duty to be a part of our community, and are responsible for our environment as much as each individual.

This means giving back to the community and to land and country through special initiatives, which you can find out about here.

What's the difference between a support coordinator and recovery coach?

The role of a support coordinator and a recovery coach can be a confusing difference to navigate. Some features of the role very much overlap with each other. Both have to be informed all about the NDIS processes, price guides and rules. Their overall goals include building connections in the NDIS and in the wider community, helping you to achieve your NDIS goals, assisting with collecting reports and approaching NDIS reviews, and establishing and maintaining your support networks. Both help solve problems and manage crises.

There are some key differences between the two, however. This starts with the very design of the two different roles, where a Recovery Coach is more fitting and in line with a mental health service, whereas a support coordinator has a wider scope. Let's explore the key distinctions below.

- Broad range of diagnoses, support coordinators will work across the disability spectrum, encompassing both mental and physical disability.

- SCs work in the background quite a lot, and can work flexibly around your needs, but primarily have indirect contact and work to ensure your supports are operating smoothly and solving any issues that arise.

- Coordinators role is to essentially oversee the plan, ensure it is used effectively, and maintain relationships with supports to ensure efficient use of funds. This might involve maintenance of supports over the long term.

Support coordinator

- Designed for mental health diagnoses, recovery coaching is structured around recovery-centered supports.

- RCs are very hands on - working in the background, they also work face-to-face (depending on how you want your supports structured), and focus a lot more on the relationship between both of you.

- Coaches do the same as coordinators in managing plans and relationships, with the added context of working towards recovery. The idea is less focussed on long-term maintenance of supports as opposed to the recovery journey itself.

Recovery coach

At Alacrity Health, we operate both support coordination and recovery coaching in line with our values and expertise. We are a mental health service that values lived experience, collaboration, transparency and flexibility. Our coordinators and coaches are passionate and often lived experience.
